Trip- Part 6

New Orleans, Louisiana

(1)-After arriving in New Orleans, we took a quick boat trip across the mighty Mississippi River. (2)- As you can see from this skyline picture, New Orleans lies about three feet below sea level. It is protected from flooding by a levee and spillways around the city. (3)- The twin bridges accross the Mississippi rest upon woven mats of cyprus trees, because of the soft silt river bed. (4)- Our next stop was Café Du Monde for a cup of Café Au Lait with Beignets. (5)- Inge (6)- and Bill enjoyed the coffee blended with Chickory and hot milk, served with hot puffy French doughnuts covered with powdered sugar.(7)- At Jackson Square, (8)- we went into the Saint Louis Cathedral to visit. (9)- Our carriage awaited us at the Pontalban Appartments (1st appartment building in US) to whisk us away to our next adventure.
